Dear friends,
Just a short poem.! You will find that it contains nothing but what is useful and agreable. Useful, because this poem is written in a language and style that will furnish with the means of expressing yourselves with neatness; agreable because the sujet is chosen among many others, with a view to interest, as well as to instruct you.
This is a little thing,
To give a cup of water, yet its draught
Of cool refreshment, drained by fevered lips,
May give a shock of pleasure to the frame
More exquisite then when nectarean juice
Renews the life of joice in fatal hours.
It is a little thing to speak a phrase
Of common comfort, which by daily use
Has almost lost it sense; yet on th ear
Of him who thought to die unmourned. It will fall
Like choicest music.

This poem remembers me the one of Victor Hugo, at the end of a battle.
To a dying soldier...
"Give him something to drink, said my father......"
